In a bid to give the motor industry a huge sales push and indeed contribute towards getting high-polluting cars off Britain’s roads, not to mention promote road safety – the government’s proposed car scrappage incentive scheme has been given a warm welcome by North East based, Jennings Motor Group.

Nas Khan, who is managing director of the Motor Group, has written to local MPs requesting that they lobby Parliament on the issue on behalf of dealers.

He said; “The implementation of such a scheme will not only benefit the industry as a whole, but also local dealers.”

Its been talked about for months but when is the UK Government going to give the ok on a UK version of the scrappage scheme?

A figure of £2000 has been quoted as the incentive, but certain criteria on the car being scrapped would have to be met, prior to any deal being secured. For example, the vehicle would have to have been in the owner’s possession for a specified period, possibly six months and it is likely that the car would have to have been taxed and tested. Implementing such guidelines is intended to alleviate people trying to claim the incentive on old, rusting MOT failures

Having already been successfully implemented in other European countries, if the proposed scrappage scheme is introduced in Britain then it is set to inject a welcome boost to a flagging market.
