Contestant Number 5 - Kendra Blackett and Matthew Hulbert
Matthew and Kendra live in Spennymoor. Matt is currently serving in the Army and has been doing so for the past 13 years. Kendra is ex-forces after serving six years and is now a personal trainer currently setting up a Military Fitness Training business in the local area.
Matthew’s son, Shane, lives with the couple and attends school in Spennymoor. Kendra is an excellent step mum to Shane and he couldn’t be happier living with them. The couple also have a huge black Newfoundland dog called Vader, who rules the house and takes up most of the space!
Matthew and Kendra met four years ago whilst serving together in Germany. Kendra was on a promotion course and Matthew was her Drill Sergeant. Despite not receiving a promotion, Matthew reckons Kendra was the loudest at shouting drill! According to Matthew that was the last time he gave her orders, it’s the other way around now!
Last April, Matthew took Kendra to Paris for a weekend and popped the question. Kendra accepted the proposal at the top of the Eiffel Tower and the couple have been trying to plan a wedding ever since.
Matthew and Kendra want to raise as much money for TFM Radio’s Cash for Kids charity as they possibly can. In the past they have raised money for various charities close to their hearts and this week is no exception. It’s all about raising money for a very worthy cause and even if the couple don’t win, they say at least they will have made a difference to local and deprived children in the area.
And the challenge is now underway to raise as much money for TFM Radio’s Cash for Kids charity.
Matthew and Kendra have been out and about bag packing at local shopping centres, including Tesco, Morrisons and the Co-op, in addition to organising tombolas, raffles, a football tournament and a bonus ball competition.
“It’s been great fun and we can’t believe how generous family, friends and members of the public have been.”
“Obviously, we would love to win the wedding package, but at the end of the day if we don’t, then we can go home knowing that we’ve raised money for a very worthy local cause.”
“The challenge has been extremely hard work. In my job, I have participated in many sleep deprivation courses, all of which have been a lot easier than this!”
“We’re certainly looking forward to a well deserved sleep on Sunday!”
